Numerical simulation of rupture and energy balance of 1D continuum by using discrete element method
Abstract
Simulation of brittle fracture and dynamic post-fracture behaviour of 1D continuum by the discrete ele-ment method is considered. The influence of space discre-tisation as well as the effect of damping and local nonlin-earity are investigated. The energy disbalance is employed as discretisation quality indicator. The main tendency of time variation of internal force and energy disbalance is illustrated. The results obtained show that discrete element method is a proper tool to be used in dynamic modelling of rupture problems, however, detailed examination of par-ticular factors is still necessary.
